HOAX: Quickmart Kenya is not recruiting 210 employees and 30 interns

This advertisement claiming that an urgent job recruitment drive is going on at Quickmart Kenya is a HOAX.

The advert claims that the supermarket is recruiting 210 employees and 20 interns who will be expected to work on a “flexible schedule and part-time basis”.

Available opportunities include cashiers, chefs and cooks, cleaners, guards, distributors, marketers, drivers and messengers. Others are fleet mechanics, loaders and off loaders, merchandisers, receptionists, storekeepers, technicians and warehouse supervisors.

Applicants are required to share documents such as their national identity card, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN certificate and a copy of their police clearance certificate. Other documents required are an application letter and CV. The application deadline is 20 September 2021, according to the ad.

However, the first hint that the jobs advert could be fake is the reference to the supermarket chain as Quickmart Superstores. The retailer goes by the name Quickmart Kenya on its verified Facebook page and website.

Another red flag is the fact that the jobs have not been advertised on Quickmart’s career’s page on their website or their verified Facebook page.

And, thirdly, the supermarket has flagged the poster as fake.

“ATTENTION!! Kindly beware of such announcements that are not shared by our official channels @QuickmartKenya on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. These announcements are not genuine and are not tied to Quickmart in any way. For queries, kindly reach out to our official customer care line or official email. STAY ALERT!” Quickmart Kenya cautioned online job seekers on their verified Facebook page.

This is the third scam PesaCheck has debunked since the beginning of 2021 pertaining to Quickmart supermarket, with one in August asking applicants to pay a fee and the other in February 2021.

PesaCheck has looked into a job advertisement claiming that there is an urgent job recruitment at Quickmart Kenya and finds it to be a HOAX.

PesaCheck also tests the accuracy of media reportage. To find out more about the project, visit pesacheck.org.
